Raffaello, Tiziano, Caravaggio, Rubens, Pietro da Cortona and other masters of the Italian and European Renaissance and of the seventeenth century are some of the artists whose masterpieces, mainly coming from the Medici’s collection, are on display in the Palatine Gallery. Created between the late eighteenth and the early nineteenth century by the Lorena family, who placed excellent paintings in the boardrooms, the Palatine Gallery and the Royal Apartaments occupy the entire first floor of the Pitti Palace, which was the residence the Grand Duke of Tuscany (before Medici and then Lorena) and, from 1860, that of Italy's royal family of Savoia.
