The Synagogue, inaugurated in 1882, is considered one of the most important in Europe. The exterior is modelled on the Arabic and Byzantine architecture; its green copper cupolas can be seen from all over the city. The atmosphere of its interior, created with Moorish–style frescos, light filtering through coloured stained glass and splendid mosaics, is stunning.
The Jewish Museum, on two floors, permits to retrace the most significant moments in the history of Florence's Jewish community. Exhibition cases on the first floor house objects and furnishings used during the synagogue ceremonies, dating from the late 16th to the 18th century. On the second floor there are historic religious objects for domestic use, one room is dedicated to the history of Jewish community in the last two centuries.
