Museo dell'Opera del Duomo

The Museum of the Opera del Duomo in Florence houses works, that were conceived and created for the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, for the Giotto's Bell Tower and for the Baptistery of S.Giovanni. Its collection is unique from many points of view, first of all for its artistic value. We thus find masterpieces by Arnolfo di Cambio, Andrea Pisano, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Luca della Robbia, Donatello. We encounter here also one of the famous Pietà by Michelangelo.
It is known as a collection of scuplture in the world, but it houses also paintings, jewellery, liturgical furnishings, old work instruments, models and architectural plans .
Custodian of these inestimable treasures is still today the Opera of Santa Maria del Fiore, that is the institution established in the end of the thirteenth century by the Florentine Republic to supervise the construction of the Cathedral.
