Broken. The Power of the Fragment
The Fragment in Art: A Journey Through Ancient, Modern and Contemporary Art
Organised in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey through different periods, places and cultures. The exhibition spans the ancient Egyptian, Etruscan and Greco-Roman civilisations, as well as the premodern cultures of the territories that today correspond to Mexico, Mali, Peru and Cambodia. The Fragment as a Story and a Source of Artistic Inspiration
At the heart of the exhibition is the theme of the fragment, understood both as a trace that tells a story and as a starting point for new forms of artistic expression and creative possibilities.Through works ranging from ancient Egypt to Michelangelo, from classical Greece to Auguste Rodin and contemporary art, the exhibition explores the significance of the fragment throughout the history of art.
Works by great masters of the past, including Giovanni Pisano, Michelangelo and Auguste Rodin, are presented alongside sculptures by leading contemporary artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Huma Bhabha, Robert Gober, Francesco Vezzoli and Danh Vo.
These artists have made the fragment a central element of their artistic research, using it to explore new forms of expression and interpretation.
