Helen Frankenthaler. Painting without Rules

Palazzo Strozzi hosts the largest exhibition ever held in Italy dedicated to Helen Frankenthaler, an important American artist of the twentieth century.
The artist's works will be put into dialogue with the works by some of her contemporaries, including Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Robert Motherwell.
Helen Frankenthaler, a key figure in the second generation of postwar American abstract painters, was one of the few women to be part of the Color Field painting and revolutionized modern art with her innovative soak-stain technique.
With a “no-rules” approach, Frankenthaler challenged the limits of painting techniques and genre expectations of her time, establishing herself as one of the leading artists of her generation.
Her ability to explore a new relationship between color and form has expanded the potential of abstract painting, continuing to inspire artists today. Her abstract canvases ushered in a new era of painting possibilities, color theory, and freedom from figuration.
The Palazzo Strozzi exhibition represents a unique opportunity to admire her works!
