Louis Fratino. Satura
The exhibition presents for the first time in an Italian museum the work by the American artist Louis Fratino, who has managed to gain great public consensus on a global level.
On display are paintings, sculptures and graphic works inspired by the Italian artistic tradition of the twentieth century, which tell how Fratino has updated, through a queer and homoerotic imagery, the great themes of the history of painting: from portraits, to landscapes, to nudes, to still lifes, questioning its validity in the 21st century.
On occasion of Satura, Fratino also presents twelve new paintings of different sizes, characterized by sumptuous scenography, landscapes, still lifes, domestic environments, portraits and moments of intimacy. A pictorial nucleus that allows for further exploration of the typical themes of his production, such as the reclining naked body, the family portrait, nature, eroticism and sex, highlighting motifs that have always been present in the artist's work, since his very first works.
The exhibition brings to the fore the pervasive entanglement between Fratino’s practice and Italy. Italy has provided Fratino with a wide range of topics, imaginaries and sensitivities: bridging relationships, affects, and landscapes, and leading ultimately to reflect upon his art.
With this exhibition the Pecci Center once again confirms its vocation as an international cultural centre.
