New Generation. Contemporary views on the Alinari Archives
The exhibition presents the works by Matteo De Mayda (Treviso, 1984), Leonardo Magrelli (Rome, 1989), Giovanna Petrocchi (Rome, 1988) and Silvia Rosi (Scandiano, 1992) and it is the "result" of the study of the extraordinary photographic heritage Alinari by these young artists.
Through the comparison between historical and contemporary images, the exhibition reflects on the contemporary function of collections and on the different artistic practices that are developing starting from archives, public or private.
The four projects on display explore a broad spectrum of reflections on the archive: the relationship between truth and fiction, the nature of the document, the decolonization and deconstruction of imaginaries and knowledge.
The exhibition tells the story of the genesis and development of the works through environmental installations in four different spaces. The itinerary is divided into the two floors of the civic center for contemporary art of MAD, proposing a reflection on the creative process that led to the realization of the projects.
