The Horne Museum is a house museum in Florence containing the collection of English collector Herbert Percy Horne (London 1864 – Florence 1916). The collection was donated in his will to the Italian state and now provides a refined treasure chest of painting and sculpture. Like the other museums of 19th-century collectors in Florence (see Stefano Bardini Museum and Palazzo Davanzati), the museum is both an opportunity to experience a domestic-commercial space and one to explore works in many media. Horne collected furniture, badges, fabrics, cutlery, ceramics, jewelry and home objects, almost all of them dating back from the 14th to the 16th century, but he also had an eye for some very high quality paintings, so we can cite names like Giotto, Simone Martini, Masaccio, Filippino Lippi, Domenico Beccafumi, Giambologna. On the second floor of the building, there is the only room personally furnished by Horne and destined to host its study library, containing about 5000 books, and to host the famous collection of illuminated codes, manuscripts, incunables and 16th century editions.
