Georges Adéagbo. Devouring the stones

For the tenth edition, Murate Art District celebrates Black History Month Florence with the exhibition "Devouring the Stones", dedicated to Georges Adéagbo (Benin).

Drawing on the concept of "Stolen Time", the exhibition takes its title from the saying "Time devours stones", which translates its inexorable flow, foreign to the life cycles associated with humanity. Through the use of complex and articulated collages that rethink time and geography, the exhibition triggers reflections on artistic and spiritual traditions, aimed at deconstructing consolidated preconceptions in society.

The creation of the artist's works begins with the collection of materials during walks across the African continent and continues with the progressive addition of fragments found in the cities where he exhibits.

“I walk, I think, I see, I pass, I return, I take the objects that attract me, I go home, I read things, I take notes, I learn”, explains the artist, defining his creative process and in these actions we hear the echo of a poetics that deconstructs preconceptions and highlights the value of cultural stratifications.
