The Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci (generally refered to as “Centro Pecci”) is Tuscany’s contemporary art center and the first Italian complex to present, collect, document and promote the advanced artistic research into contemporary art. Since its opening in 1988, it has been constantly exhibiting and collecting contemporary art, as well as offering numerous educational programs, shows and multimedia events. The Pecci collection counts over one thousand works that map the artistic trends from the ‘60s to today: painting, sculpture, cinema and videos, installations, works on paper, art books, photographs, graphics and projects upon order.
In 2016, Centro Pecci was re-opened after completing the extension designed by architect Maurice Nio and the restructuring of the original building designed by rationalist architect Italo Gamberini. Today, the complex houses over 3000 square metres of exhibitive halls, the archive and specialist library CID/Visual Arts, which counts a heritage of about 60,000 volumes, the auditorium-cinema, the bookshop, the restaurant, the bistro and the outdoor theatre. Regularly changing permanent exhibitions are accompanied by shorter term shows.
